Rev. William Lovin

The Rev. William Lovin, began his ministry at Congregational UCC in August 2007. A native of Illinois, Bill graduated from Southern Illinois University and Harvard Divinity School.  He served churches in Wisconsin and Connecticut before coming to Iowa City. Bill has a passion for teaching the New Testament and a deep interest in the relationship between faith and work.  He is also a big fan of the bossa nova. 


Brianna Schwenk Brianna Schwenk is our Director of Christian Education. Brianna came to us after working as the youth director at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Iowa City. People who worked with Brianna spoke highly about her strong relationships with parents and teens at the church. She studied at both St. Olaf College and Creighton University. Having worked as a high school speech coach, she is currently studying for a Master of Arts in Teaching at Drake.

John Hughes John Hughes is our Choir Director. Before coming here, John was the chancel choir director at First Congregational Church (UCC) in DeKalb, IL, for two years. Those who worked with John there were sorry to see him go—and a little jealous of us. John is a 2007 graduate of Augustana College in Rock Island, IL, and received his Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Northern Illinois University in 2010. He came to Iowa City to pursue a Doctor of Music in Choral Conducting degree. John has taught in grade schools and high schools.

Sheila Bloomer

Sheila Bloomer is our wonderful office manager.
